IT Day Japan – solving urgent global issues
IT Day Japan launched Dec 9, 2018 on the 50th anniversary of The Demo, as an annual event “for you who want to change the world.” The intention, to become an annual, global event, ultimately ongoing, to discuss, inspire, and implement needed change. Why this anniversary date? On December 9, 1968, Douglas Engelbart, the father of the IT revolution, demonstrated “a computer network that can increase people’s intelligence, promote people’s cooperation, and solve the serious problems facing humankind.” The Doug Engelbart Institute is honored and excited to participate in this ongoing initiative.
This year, the 2020 topic for IT Day Japan is
“What can IT do for the democratic crisis in COVID-19 pandemic?”
– an issue of immediate, urgent, complex, global importance

DESCRIPTION: To commemorate the 52nd anniversary of “The DEMO” held by Douglas Engelbart, the father of the IT revolution, on December 9, 1968, The 6th “Global Digicon Salon 006” will be held on a global scale.
The theme will be “IT day Japan 2020 What can IT do for the democratic crisis in COVID-19 pandemic?“.
With COVID-19, democracy is about to fall into crisis all over the world. The main reason for this is the rapid increase in unemployment due to the suspension of economic activity. In the first place, before COVID-19, it was predicted that a large number of unemployed people would occur as IT developed. It is now dramatically accelerated by COVID-19.
But, was IT born in this way with the purpose of destroying human society? No. Fifty-two years ago, Douglas Engelbart, the father of the IT revolution, demonstrated “a computer network that can increase people’s intelligence, promote people’s cooperation, and solve the serious problems facing humankind”. Starting from this DEMO, various IT devices and services such as personal computers, the Internet, smartphones, search engine, EC, SNS, games, artificial intelligence, IoT, and robots were born. However, the current IT is still full of problems. It is not designed to increase people’s intelligence, promote people’s cooperation, and solve the serious problems facing humankind. On the contrary, they are weakening people’s thinking, brainwashing for the convenience of the government, and inciting conflict and hatred. Under these circumstances, the sudden occurrence of COVID-19 is undoubtedly a major disaster for us. However, on the other hand, it is also an opportunity for us to fundamentally review the existing social system and bring about major innovation. In fact, humankind has made great progress in the face of such a crisis.
What can IT do for the democratic crisis in COVID-19 pandemic?

Born in 1955. Graduated from the Department of Political Science, School of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University. 1985 Launched NTT Captain System Information Magazine “Captain Pedia”. In 1986, Japan’s first Macintosh specialized magazine “MAC World Japan Edition”. In 1987, the first issue of “MACLIFE”. In 1999, Developed “Knowledge Circulation System with AI” Kacis Writer/Kacis Publisher. Received “Software Product of the Year 2001” (SOFTIC). In 2017, held “Horos 2050 Future Conference”. On December 10, 2018, held Alan Kay’s keynote lecture “IT25.50”.
