It’s a great time for reflection, and for looking ahead to an exciting lineup of projects. A Year in Review
50th Anniversary of the Demo
One year ago December we celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Doug Engelbart’s legendary “Mother of All Demos” on three continents! Visit theDemoat50.org for event programs, photos, videos, amazing lineup of speakers, and some fabulous press.
Gems from Engelbart Archives
This October we celebrated two more 50th Anniversary milestones, now showcased in these all-new online exhibits:
- Doug’s Demo Sequel: 1969 in many ways surpassing his 1968 demo; check it out!
- Engelbart’s Role in Early Networking celebrating the first transmission over the ARPANET (precursor to the Internet), the Network Information Center, first online communities, and more.
And check out our new ‘Field Guide’ to Doug Engelbart’s seminal 1962 work Augmenting Human Intellect: A Conceptual Framework. It’s filled with insights from colleagues and scholars, wordles, and links to derivative works.

Doug’s “Mother of All Demos” makes a cameo appearance in the new TV series ‘Explained’ episode Coding! featuring great interviews by Andy van Dam, Alan Kay, techno-sociologist Zeynep Tufekci, and more.
